The MASK consortium

The MASK project is partially financed by the European Commission (Esprit DG III Industry)

The MASK demonstrator

Speech technologies integrated with advanced multimedia services for train passengers.

The Mask demonstrator is presently used for field trials at the St-Lazare station in Paris. Overall system performance is assessed by a questionnaire regarding the ease-of-use, reliability, and user satisfaction of the Mask system.

The aim of the MASK project

The objective is to design, develop and evaluate a demonstrator of information and sales kiosk implementing an innovative user interface. MASK enables train passengers the use of a multimodal input (speech and touch) and multimedia output (sound, video, text and graphics). Compared to on-site existing systems, the main objectives are to reduce the time taken to complete a transaction, to increase the number of successful transactions and to enlarge the population of potential users. Iterative evaluations are carried throughout the development process so as to improve the system and achieve a dialogue as convial and natural as possible.
